Hats easily deform after prolonged wear, being pressed down, or improper drying after washing. This is especially true for baseball caps, bucket hats, and straw hats; a crooked brim or crown looks unsightly. So how can you restore a deformed hat?

1. Use steam to "irond" it back into shape

You can use the steam function of an iron, or boil a kettle of water and gently steam the deformed areas of the hat.

Once the fabric is softened by the steam, gently pinch it back into shape and let it air dry naturally.

Tip: Remember to keep about 20 centimeters away from the steam vent to avoid damaging the hat.

2. Stuff it with support to maintain shape

Hats are most prone to collapsing when wet. You can stuff them with towels, newspapers, or clothing to help maintain their shape.

This is especially true for baseball caps or wide-brimmed hats; stuffing them with support while drying can effectively prevent deformation.

3. Use hat shaping spray or an iron.

There are special hat shaping sprays on the market. Spray the hat on and then gently blow-dry it with a hairdryer to help it hold its shape better.

If you don't have a spray, you can use a low-temperature iron.

Place a cloth over the hat and then gently iron out any wrinkles. Be careful not to use too high a temperature to avoid damaging the fabric or logo.

4. "Reshape" with water.

Some hats are so badly deformed that dry ironing or steaming isn't very effective. In this case, try washing it again.

When washing, use cold water with a little laundry detergent and gently rub the hat. Do not rub vigorously.

After washing, let it air dry naturally. Do not wring it or tumble dry it. Combining this with the "stuffing method" mentioned above will yield better results.

5. How to prevent hats from deforming in daily life?

Do not fold or press them at the bottom of a suitcase;

Do not expose them to direct sunlight or tumble dry after washing;

When traveling, wear the hat or stuff it with clothing to prevent it from being crushed;

Store it on a support or hook.
